Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted documents to his provincial territory in March. The treaty was signed in January when Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian visited Moscow. The document provides a legal framework for the long-term development of Moscow-Tehran relations, Tass reported.
It designates Russia and Iran as strategic partners, covering all areas including defense, fighting terrorism, energy sector, finance, transportation, industry, agriculture, culture, science and technology.
Vyakeslav Voldin, chairman of the state Dumas, noted early that the treaty would strengthen relations between the two countries in terms of both bilateral cooperation and coordination on international issues.
He also noted that the document paid special attention to improving inter-parliamentary relations through a cooperative committee between the state’s Duma and the Iranian parliamentary committee (also known as Majlis), including within the international parliamentary organization.
