The special advisory team summoned Kim Yong-Dae, chief of Drone Operations Command last week, on allegations that Yoon ordered a secret drone operation north last year and justified his martial law to inflam the tensions of neighbors. Yun, who was fired each, denied the allegations, Reuters reported.
On Friday, Kim told reporters that the incident was part of a “secret military operation” in response to garbage balloons from the north and would not induce neighbors.
In October, North Korea said it had released photos of the ruins of a South Korean military drone that had been crashed by the South sending drones to scatter anti-North Korean leaflets into Pyongyang.
At the time, South Korea refused to say whether it had sent the drone.
Kim was arrested Friday without a court warrant, local media reported.
Prosecutors and police are permitted to make an “emergency arrest” if they have strong belief that someone is guilty of a serious crime and there is a risk that an individual may escape or destroy evidence.
Prosecutors have stepped up investigation into the drone operation after indicting former President Yoon, who was jailed for additional charges in his short-lived martial law declaration in December.
