TEHRAN – Science Minister Hossein Simai Saraf condemned the sanctions imposed on the country’s science department, saying the sanctions are against UNESCO’s open access policy.
Tackling the global ministerial dialogue on scientific diplomacy held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France on March 25th and 26th, the minister said that imposes sanctions on scientific activities in accordance with Security Council resolution 2231.
The two-day event was held under the theme of “Fast-Changing World Science Diplomacy: Building Peace of Men and Women.”
Simaei-Sarraf portrayed Iran’s perspective and perspective on modern science diplomacy in addressing the challenges of the 21st century, the role of science diplomacy in protecting the security of science and promoting open access in scientific research, and the role of science diplomacy in promoting the use of new technologies.
On the bystanders of the event, officials held a meeting with Deputy Director Xing QU. Lydia Arthur Brito, vice-director of natural sciences; Educational assistant to Stefania Giannini. Farmin Eduard Matoko is the general assistant director of UNESCO’s external relations.
Additionally, Simaei-Sarraf held meetings with science pastors from Sri Lanka and Colombia, as well as the vice ministers of science from Iraq and Switzerland.
During a meeting with an Iranian professor living in France and Germany, Shimaei Saraf invited them to help strengthen collaboration with the country.
Officials also highlighted the need to amend the law and eliminate existing gaps in order to benefit from the scientific capabilities of Iranians living abroad. It has been decided that 20 well-known Iranian professors living in Europe will travel to Iran this summer to give speeches and hold scientific and educational workshops in a variety of areas, including artificial intelligence and renewable energy.
The Global Ministerial Dialogue on Scientific Diplomacy aims to advance international dialogue to create a new global framework for scientific diplomacy that addresses the current needs of society, as part of a decade of international science for sustainable development.
The purpose of dialogue is to promote a high level of commitment to science diplomacy as a means of promoting dialogue and peace. We explore innovative scientific diplomatic initiatives through the exchange between ministers, scientists, diplomats and experts to contribute to peacebuilding and human rights protection. Agree with a common framework to promote shared goals through scientific diplomacy. It highlights ongoing initiatives and opportunities in science diplomacy.
