Wright, who met with Saudi Arabian Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman on Sunday, said he was on the “road” to reach an agreement to work together to develop a Saudi Arabian civilian nuclear program, according to Reuters.
Wright said that more details about the memorandum detailing the energy cooperation between Riyadh and Washington will be coming later this year, as he first officially visited the kingdom as part of a tour of energy-producing Gulf countries.
“There are definitely 123 agreements on the US partnership and involvement in nuclear power here. There are many ways to build a transaction that will achieve both Saudi Arabia’s and American goals,” he said.
The so-called 123 agreement with Riyadh refers to section 123 of the US Atomic Energy Act of 1954. Compliance with Section 123 must allow the US government and US companies to cooperate with agencies developing the Kingdom’s private nuclear capabilities.
