TEHRAN – Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman met with the leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Thursday and presented him with a message from the country’s king.
At a meeting attended by Iranian military chief Major Mohamad Hossein Bagheeri, Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran believes that relations between the Islamic Republic and the Saudi Kingdom will benefit both sides.
“Iran’s relationship with Islamic Republic and Saudi Arabia is beneficial to both countries and we believe they can complement each other.”
Ayatollah Khamenei also pointed out “some of Iran’s advances” in the technological field, saying that Techran is ready to share with the Saudi Kingdom.
The leader added, “It’s far better for local siblings to cooperate and help out than relying on others.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei said that some countries are seriously opposed to the expansion of relations between Tehran and Riyadh, suggesting that “these hostile motivations must be overcome and we are prepared for this.”
On his side, the Saudi Defense Minister has pushed a great deal of satisfaction into the meeting.
Prince Khalid said he “he came to Tehran on the agenda of expanding relations with Iran and agenda of cooperation in all areas,” and hoped that “constructive consultations” would lay the foundation for “a stronger relationship between Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic than in the past.”
