Hamas said Baldawil, a member of the Politburo and representative of the Palestinian Legislative Council, was killed on a “target strike” “while observing night prayers in a tent in the Almawasi region.” His wife was also killed in the attack, the group added, Anadoru Agency reported.
Air strikes have been part of the ongoing Israeli bombing of Gaza and have been intensifying recently.
Hamas denounced the attack as a “co-sick Zionist attack,” saying Israel “has committed war crimes in a systematic campaign of genocide” in Gaza.
Since Tuesday, Israel has killed more than 700 Palestinians and injured more than 1,000 people in a surprise air campaign in Gaza, crushing a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in January.
Since October 2023, nearly 50,000 Palestinians have been killed in the brutal onslaught of Israeli forces in Gaza, mostly women and children, and more than 113,000 have been injured.
The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Joab Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel is also facing a genocide case in the International Court of Justice due to its war with the enclave.
