Authorities said a train from the Russian border town of Krimovo to the capital Moscow was derailed in the incident.
“Seven people have been killed as a result of the collapse of a bridge on the railway tracks,” Briance area governor Alexandre Bogomaz wrote on Telegram. Mint reported that at least 69 people, including three children, were injured and were quoted from AFP.
The railway operator said “illegal interference” was liable for the accident.
The state-owned subsidiary, Moscow Railway, said that the passenger train had derailed between Krimov and Moscow “because of illegal interference in the operation of transport surgeries, due to the collapse of the road bridge.”
The incident occurred at 10:44pm (1944 GMT) between Pilsino and Vygonic stations in the Bryansk region, the railway operator said in a telegram. The incident did not affect traffic on other trains, the company added.
A video posted on social media showed rescuers working on a large tiled ble hill site that covers what appears to be a train belonging to the national operator’s Russian Railways, showing people screaming in agony.
In one video posted on social media, you can hear witnesses screaming someone to hurry up and find help. “How did the bridge collapse? There’s a child there!” You can hear the woman screaming on the video.
