Pan Wei, an official at the Ministry of Housing and Urban and Rural Development, said that based on thorough preliminary research, Shanghai has adopted a household-based urban renewal strategy, and each household will be provided with a customized renewal plan.
Each update plan is developed based on direct consultation with local residents, and their concerns are specifically solicited and considered, Ban said, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Pan added that Shanghai is also considering a broader approach to financing. He explained that in addition to subsidies from the central government, the city government is increasing financial support for areas with difficult upgrades.
Under the promotion of urban renewal, Shanghai has completed the renovation of 380,000 square meters of housing in the city center starting from 2023. The eastern Chinese metropolis also launched 56 renewal projects in slum areas, benefiting 22,000 households, official data revealed.
