Beirut – With voter turnout of 44.59% and in a good security and competitive environment, the Lebanese government successfully organized the first round of mayoral elections at Governor-General of Lebanon.
Local government elections will be held in four stages this month to cover all Lebanese governors. This lies in escalation amidst tensions surrounding Lebanon, particularly in occupied Palestinian territory and Syria.
The election, held for the first time in nine years, continued its repeated postponements since 2016. Ahead of the major parliamentary elections in May 2026, determining the scope of political factions for pivotal to Lebanon’s political life is clearly a test of political factions.
In various municipalities in the southern suburbs of Beirut (Dahiye), the Governor of Lebanon, the Hezbollah base of the Hezbollah and Amal Movement, aka Shiite duo, did not oppose it under the “development and loyalty list.”
The duo won in the suburbs of Ghobeiry against the embassy-supported “Ghobeiry Gathers Gathers Gathering Together” list.
In Haret Hreik, the duo also won against a list supported by the Lebanese military party. Despite their recent tense relationships, the duo formed an alliance with the free patriotic movement.
Resistant voters emphasized that their participation was “in favor of the resistance approach and the sacrifice of martial artists.”
“We voted to affirm our loyalty to the best martial artist approach. His prominent thing said Hassan Nasrara,” the father of one martial artist told the Tehran Times.
President Joseph Own followed the election on earth. Before the election began, he visited the Ministry of Home Affairs, where he was greeted by Ministers of Home Affairs Ahmad Hajjar and Minister of Justice Adel Nassar.
“It is important that these elections take place on time, especially as around 90% of Lebanon’s municipalities have been dissolved. Citizens complain that despite the basic role they play in development, these municipalities do not meet their needs and requirements,” Aoun said.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also visited the operational offices of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Local Government, emphasizing that “the election process went smoothly and without any confusion.”
On his side, after the ballot box was closed, Hajar said:
Additionally, Army Commander Rodolph Heichal was also explained to him about the exceptional security measures taken to ensure the security of the election process.
