In August, the Lebanese government ordered the troops to plan to disarm Hezbollah by the end of the year, saying that Israel would fear to intensify its strike under intense US pressure.
Hezbollah repeatedly opposed Wednesday’s move, with the parliamentary bloc calling on Lebanese authorities to “reverse their…patriotic decisions.”
Local media reported that Shia ministers, including representatives from Hezbollah and its allies of the Amal Movement, attended the meeting on Friday.
However, shortly after the meeting began, Ministers of Hezbollah and Amal retreated. They were later followed by the fifth Shiite minister of the Cabinet.
Friday’s Cabinet session saw at least five people have been killed as Israeli air attacks in southern Lebanon over the past two days, according to the Ministry of Health and the state-run National News Agency.
