Tehran – Shia and Sunni scholars in Iran and the broader Muslim world have published strong condemnations of Israel’s war against Iran, framing resistance as a sacred duty that transcends sectarian division.
In Tehran, the declaration signed by 1,500 Sunni clergy reaffirmed that facing a Zionist regime is the responsibility and God’s duty of the state rooted in Kurran’s call to “strive in the way of God.” The statement emphasized that Iran’s defense against Israeli attacks combines all ethnic and religious communities and strengthens bonds across the country.
At a gathering at Imam Khomeini Hosenya on Wednesday, in line with the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) and the celebration of the National Unification Week, Shia and Sunni scholars condemned Israeli war with Iran and reaffirmed the need for Muslim solidarity.
Major Sunni scholars emphasized that solidarity with Iran is not limited to the border. Egypt’s Al-Azhar Sheikh took the unprecedented step of expressing support for Iran for Israeli invasion. Additionally, 100 prominent Sunni scholars from across the Islamic world condemned “war crimes” in Tel Aviv during a 12-day conflict, urging the action of collective Muslims.
Shiite and Sunni leaders emphasized that continuing Israeli crime from Gaza to Iran represents the most important challenge facing the Muslim world today.
