Three suicide bombers and all three security personnel were killed in an attack on a paramilitary group’s headquarters in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar, Anadolu reported on Monday, citing a senior police official.
Mian Said, the city’s police chief, told reporters that the suicide bombers were thwarted when they tried to break into the federal police headquarters.
One of the bombers detonated himself at the entrance to the headquarters, and two managed to enter the compound, where they were engaged and killed, he added.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and are conducting clearing operations.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and paid tribute to the security forces for their swift actions that saved “precious lives”.
In separate statements, they vowed that the country’s war on terrorism would continue despite “these dastardly attacks.”
