Nisa said six airstrikes took place in the Sabiid and Canoole areas of Lower Shabelle, and 19 terrorists were also seriously injured.
“These operations to neutralize terrorists came after national intelligence and security agencies received information about Kawariji’s group that sought to disrupt security in the Sabiid and Kanur regions,” Nisa said in a statement, Anadoru News Agency reported.
Khawarij is the term used by the Somali government to describe al-Shabaab.
The intelligence agency also notified civilians to “remove from Kawariji’s hideout, a target of the military.”
The operation comes after Al Shabaab launched a thrust attack on Somali forces based in Sabyid village, on the outskirts of Afgoye’s strategic agricultural city.
Afgoe is located 30 km (18.6 miles) southwest of the capital Mogadishu.
