In line with anti-Zionist policies, Spain’s parliament overwhelmingly voted in favor of a law banning arms trade and exchange between Madrid and Tel Aviv, citing the regime’s crimes in the Gaza Strip.
Spanish newspaper El Pais reported that Spain’s parliament finally voted in favor of an arms embargo on Israel after the Podemos party (We Can) refused for two weeks to clarify its position.
Approval of Podemos’ plan was not announced until hours before the vote, when the party’s general secretary Ivan Burara said: “Today we approve the approval of this decree.”
The law was passed with 178 votes in favor, 169 votes against, and one abstention. Four members of Podemos, who had been highly critical of the bill, ultimately supported it.
The Madrid government has announced that since the start of the war in Gaza, it has banned the purchase of weapons from Israel and the sale of weapons to Tel Aviv.
