Tehran – Mojtaba Akbarpoa, principal of Donggan’s Cultural Heritage and Tourism, gave news of the restoration and strengthening operation of Zangorle Dome in Donggan, Semnan province.
He visited Donggan’s historic monument on Saturday and said the purpose of the action was to prevent the erosion of the historic monument, Mehr’s news agency reported.
He added that the recovery of the Zongoleh Dome is ongoing and given the erosion of the building, this measure is a step towards preventing destruction.
Speaking to the building dates back to the 7th century, he added: “The recovery is on the agenda to prevent moisture from entering the building.”
He continues as the worn layer is removed, “After the surface is prepared, the repair work is carried out with uniform material.”
Akbarpour emphasized that ensuring the stability of the dome is extremely important, saying, “For this purpose, restoration work is being carried out to prevent damage to the top of the building.”
New Thatch coatings will then be applied to walls, seams and dome ruins to enhance it and provide insulation against changes in weather, he added.
The historic monument to Zangoleh Dome in Donggan is listed under 650 on the National Heritage List.
Located about 350 km east of Tehran, Dongang is one of Iran’s oldest cities, with several historic monuments, caravansera and religious sites. The remains of ancient struggles, once described by historical accounts as being large enough for tanks, still stand on the outskirts of the city.
