TEHRAN – Iranian authorities have announced the successful recovery of several stolen artifacts, including rare handwritten copies of the Holy Qur’an, from the Shah Nematravali Museum in Mahan, Kelman Province.
According to an official statement from the Iranian Donations and Charity Organization (AWQAF), the main suspect in the famous theft was identified and arrested by Iranian police.
The precious historical objects, including works from the famous Mahan treasures and stolen items described as manuscripts, were photographed from the museum in the Shah Nematra Vari Shrine complex. Following an emergency order from the head of the donation agency, followed by close coordination with police and judicial authorities, the case was pursued as a more prioritized security issue.
“The stolen items have been recovered and returned to the museum thanks to ongoing judicial and information efforts,” the organization confirmed in a press release.
Previously, prosecutor Mahan had declared that the case was being handled with special urgency by Iranian judicial and security forces.
Shah Nematravali Shrine, home to the mysterious and poet tombs of 15th century Iran, is one of the most precious historical landmarks in Karman province. Originally built in 1436, the shrine has seen numerous buildings under a continuous dynasty and remains a respected pilgrimage site.
