Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf departed for Islamabad at the official invitation of Pakistan’s Parliament Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
Ghalibaf led a parliamentary delegation and left for Pakistan’s capital on Wednesday. During the visit, the Speaker will hold discussions with Pakistan’s parliamentarians and senators.
In addition to these talks, Ghalibaf will meet with senior political officials, including Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. His program also includes visits to Lahore and Karachi, important cities recognized as the cultural and economic centers of Pakistan. There he will meet with cultural, religious and business leaders.
He also said that his visit to Pakistan comes after the 12-day war imposed by the Israeli regime, during which the Pakistani people, government and parliament showed strong support for Iran.
Ghalibaf is accompanied on this visit by several parliamentarians and members of the Iran-Pakistan Friendship Parliamentary League.
Pakistan is Iran’s most populous neighbor, and trade between the two countries exceeds $3 billion. Both sides are determined to increase this figure to $10 billion through precise targeting and addressing existing trade barriers.
