The 42 starvation strikers, who have been arrested by Israeli forces while intercepting aid ship between October 1st and 3rd, news outlets reported.
The fleet was trying to break the Navy Blockade in Gaza to carry out iconic shipments of humanitarian aid.
In a statement, the organizers of Sumud Flotilla said that the activists “refused to be fed by the same groups that run the genocide starvation campaign against millions of Palestinians in Gaza.”
“In Gaza, starvation is not a tragedy. It’s a policy,” the statement read. “Since October 2023, Israel has pursued a full hunger campaign, targeting fields, farmers and aid forces, keeping people alive, targeting them.”
The statement added that “non-violence is not passive” and that it links “the courage to put your body at risk to stand up injustice” to the spirit of Palestinian hunger strikers like Kada Adnan.
Adnan was a Palestinian activist and prisoner in the occupying territory who died after an 87-day hunger strike that protested detention without trial. By the time of his death, he had been arrested 12 times by Israel.
The global Sumud Flotilla, consisting of more than 50 ships, set sail from Barcelona later last month to aid Gaza, challenging what human rights groups accused of as one of the harshest and most inhumane lockdowns in the world.
Since Wednesday, the Israeli Navy has been approaching Gaza, illegally intercepting fleet ships in international waters, detaining about 500 activists from more than 40 countries.
He was one of the people who were accused of several well-known figures, including Swedish activist Greta Samberg, former Barcelona mayor Ada Kollow and members of the European Parliament Lima Hassan.
On March 2, when Israel violated a ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, the government sealed it across all borders and territories, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid, further deepening Gaza’s already tragic humanitarian crisis.
The brutal lockdown has pushed the death toll linked to hunger to 453, including 150 children.
Since launching the war on genocide in Gaza on October 7, 2023, Israel has killed at least 66,225 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
