Last week, Israeli officials allowed trickle to aid to Palestinian enclaves amid rising international pressure, but hundreds of trucks had only a small portion of the food needed by a population of 2 million at risk of starvation after nearly three months of lockdown.
Christerson told Swedish news agency TT that the European Union should impose sanctions and apply diplomatic pressure on Israel to allow humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
“We, along with ourselves and many other European countries, are very clear about it,” Christerson told TT.
“That pressure is now increasing and for no doubt for very good reasons,” he emphasized.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, since October 7, 2023, at least 53,977 Palestinians have been killed, with mostly women and children, as well as 122,966 others injured in the brutal military onslaught in Gaza.
The International Criminal Court issued a warrant to Netanyahu and former military minister Yoayoa Gallant in November last year, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice due to its war with the besieged coastal territories.
