South Korea and Syria formally established diplomatic relations at another milestone in Syrian President Ahmad Alshara’s transitional government.
In Damascus, diplomatic relations have been formalized in Damascus between South Korean Foreign Minister Chou Ta Yul and Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani, Al Jazeera reported.
During the ceremony, Cho said South Korea is ready to help Syria recover from the 2013 civil war through business investment and humanitarian assistance.
According to a read from the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al Shaibani said he hopes Seoul supports easing the remaining international sanctions in Damascus.
According to South Korea’s Yonghap News Agency, the establishment of formal bonds concludes talks that began in February with approval from Seoul’s cabinet, and the talks have been approved as the two countries are in the midst of a major political transition.
