Syria has witnessed an astonishing wave of young women in the Arauit community since December, when former al-Qaeda affiliate Syrian Hayat Tahri al-Sham (HTS) overthrew President Bashar al-Assad’s government.
Cradle reported Wednesday that these women, who are primarily from Arawai religious denominations, are being adducted by armed extremists affiliated with the new Syrian government and will live as sexual slaves to Governor Idlib, a traditional HTS base.
The report stated that the mass enticement and enslavement of Alawian women are similar to the enslavement of thousands of Yejidi women by Dash during the 2014 genocide held in Singyaru, Iraq.
In a Facebook post, Hiba Ezzedeen, a Syrian activist from Idlib, described his encounter with a woman who was captured and taken to the governor as a sexual slave during the massacre of Alawi people in the country’s coastal regions on March 7th.
“On my last visit to Idlib, I was in the place with my brother. When I saw a man I knew was a woman I had never met before.”
“This man had been married several times before and was believed to have three wives now. My attention was the appearance of a woman. It was clear that she had no idea how to properly wear a hijab.
Ezzedeen learns that the woman is from the coastal area where the March 7th massacre took place.
“This guy took her to the village and no further details were available. No one knew what had happened to her or how she got there.
Ezzedeen further enquiries about the adduction of Alawite women from the coast.
“Unfortunately, many people have confirmed that this actually happened, not just one faction. Based on what my friend said, the accusations point to factions of the state army and some foreign fighter planes, with the motives varying,” she reported.
Syria’s new HTS-led army incorporates armed extremist groups, including turkey-backed factions, since taking power in Damascus.
Many SNA commanders and foreign extremists have been appointed to the top positions of the Syrian Ministry of Defense.
It is believed that the former SNA and foreign fighter factions carried out the March 7th massacre.
Extremists went door-to-door visits in Alawian villages and neighbours, executed every soldier man they could find, and sometimes killed women, children and elderly people.
Ezzedeen concluded her post by saying, “This is a serious issue that cannot be ignored. The government must quickly reveal the fate of these women and release them.”
Ezzedeen’s courageous report revealed the fate of many young women from minority communities that have mysteriously disappeared in recent months.
The governor appointed to Idlib’s HTS issued an order to arrest Ezzedeen, claiming that he “shamed the Hijab.”
The HTS extremist group seized control of Damascus on December 8 last year, winning a rapid attack that began in Aleppo, the northwest just two weeks ago, eventually ending Assad’s 24-year rule.
