TEHRAN–The Touring and Automobile Club of the Islamic Republic of Iran (TACI) has been elected by its members to represent the South Asia region on the United Nations World Tourism Organization Executive Board for the four-year period 2026-2029.
According to Mehr News Agency, gaining a seat on the Council of Associate Member States will provide the basis for Iran’s active participation in decision-making and global tourism priorities, and will strengthen the basis for exchange of ideas and transfer of experiences between countries and influential institutions.
Additionally, this position provides a valuable opportunity to showcase Iran’s diverse tourism potential, develop land tourism, strengthen multilateral cooperation, and directly interact with leading companies in the international tourism industry, such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Expedia Group, and the global platform TripAdvisor.
The United Nations World Tourism Organization is made up of 160 countries around the world, and in addition to government member countries, more than 500 member countries cooperate, including private, public, and academic institutions.
This international network works with UNWTO Member States to foster knowledge exchange and strengthen cooperation between key tourism stakeholders, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the implementation of UNWTO’s tourism mission.
The Executive Board of UNWTO Members is elected every four years from among full members from different regions of the world.
