Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid reported that 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 30 others injured in clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani soldiers last night.
He added that a significant amount of weapons were captured by Taliban forces during the operation.
The clashes resulted in more than 20 Taliban fighters being killed or injured.
Tensions have risen in Pakistan and Afghanistan in recent days, raising concerns in the region. Iran shares borders with both countries and has historically positioned itself as a mediator of conflicts in South and Central Asia, emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy as a means to prevent conflicts from spilling over into broader regional stability.
On Sunday morning, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghai expressed concern over recent developments between Pakistan and Afghanistan and stressed the importance of mutual respect for each country’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty. A senior Iranian diplomat called for restraint and the immediate start of dialogue between the two countries to ease tensions and resolve the conflict through diplomacy.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches fundamental importance to maintaining peace and stability in the surrounding region. He reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to provide all necessary support towards easing tensions between the two neighboring Muslim countries.
