TEHRAN – Hamid Zorabi, an official from the Ministry of the Environment (DOE) and Medal Masiev, director of Kyrgyzstan’s natural resources, ecology and technical supervision, met on Friday to strengthen bilateral relations.
The conference was held on the sidelines of the International Conference on Global Mountain Dialogue for Sustainable Development, held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from April 24-25, the DOE website reported.
Emphasizing the proximity of nature and culture between the two countries, Masiev announced the preparations for Kyrgyzstan’s preparations for joint action to protect the environment.
Referring to Iran’s 60 years of experience in wildlife conservation and biodiversity, Zorabi said the DOE is ready to share his experience and knowledge in the field of biodiversity conservation and protected area management with Kyrgyzstan.
It has also been decided to keep the previous memorandum up to date and take steps to implement it.
The government of the Kyrgyz Republic has collaborated with international organizations to organize a global mountain dialogue for sustainable development. The high-level conference aims to strengthen international cooperation on climate resilience and sustainable development in mountainous regions.
Representatives from over 50 countries in Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Australia, as well as around 30 international organizations discussed key aspects of the mountain sustainable development during the event.
The main objectives of the conference include integrating mountain issues into a global climate and development framework, raising awareness of environmental and socioeconomic challenges in mountainous regions, and promoting joint initiatives for sustainable mountain development.
Topics covered at the conference include climate change impacts on mountain ecosystems and their populations, the role of mountains in ensuring global water, food and energy safety, climate change adaptation strategies, prevention of ecosystem degradation, enhanced scientific research and surveillance of glaciers and water resources, and financial and technical support for the sustainable development of mountainous regions.
