TEHRAN – Esmail Bakaei, a spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, issued a harsh condemnation of the US recent military strike across Yemen, describing the attack as “war crimes” and “a serious violation of international law.”
In an official statement on Friday, Bakaei condemned the strike as “a blatant violation of Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” and said Washington “systematically fled the principles of the UN Charter.”
Recently, US attacks have targeted residential and essential infrastructure across Yemen’s states in Sanaa, Sadah and Al Jauf. In addition to this pattern of attack, as part of a broader campaign, the US military has been running around 800 strikes in Yemen since mid-March, killing hundreds of civilians.
On Monday, one airstrike struck Saada’s detention centre, which hides African immigrants, killing nearly 70 inmates and injuring more than 50 people.
Additionally, US forces attacked a quarry northwest of Sanaa.
The operation killed eight civilians among women and children, and destroyed three civilian homes.
A spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry explained more about his statement, claiming that intentional targeting of civilian zones and critical infrastructure “constituents both war crimes and crimes against humanity,” urging the international community to hold the United States accountable.
The idiots also criticized the UN and its Security Council for their inaction, “facing US lawless attacks and the massacre of innocent civilians.”
He warned that US military intervention in Yemen, coupled with “ongoing genocide in Gaza and the West Bank” and “terrorist actions by the Zionist regime against Lebanon” have increased instability across West Asia.
The spokesman called on regional nations to oppose the “warmth and lawlessness” committed by the US and Israeli regimes, stressing that “all countries in the region share a collective responsibility to stand up to these insecurity forces.”
He reiterated Tehran’s stance that Western and Israeli actions directly undermine peace efforts and exacerbate humanitarian crises in conflict zones.
The statement ended with a request for an immediate halt of US military operations in Yemen. By addressing Washington’s violations, it urged international organizations to “fulfil their legal and moral duties.”
