TEHRAN – Iran’s Russian ambassador, Kazem Jalali, met with Russian vice minister Alexander Gurshko on Thursday to discuss bilateral, regional and global relations. They emphasized strategic cooperation amid changing international dynamics.
Grushko explained to Jalali about the recent developments in Russia’s relations with Europe and the United States, highlighting the need for regular diplomatic involvement with Iranian counterparts.
The debate coincides with ongoing Russian-US negotiations on the Ukrainian War, preceding indirect Iran and US talks in Muscat, Oman.
Previously, when Grushko last visited Tehran, he and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragci looked into issues of Europe and the region.
Araghchi said, “Relations with Russia have progressed robustly across all domains and aim to capitalize on undeveloped possibilities for deeper collaboration,” highlighting Iran’s commitment to expanding ties.
“Historical Steps to Recognise the Partnership Treaty of Duma”
On Friday, Jalali celebrated Russian Duma’s ratification of the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty of Iran and Russia, tweeting in Russian with a Persian proverb.
The treaty, which was engraved during President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Moscow in January, establishes a legal framework for long-term cooperation in defense, terrorism, energy, finance and cultural exchange.
We are awaiting final approval from Iranian parliament and the Council of the Russian Federation.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagh Galibakh urged President Pezeshkian’s government to promote the submission of a treaty for legislative review, highlighting the strategic urgency.
Meanwhile, Vladimir Zkhabarov, vice-chairman of the Russian Federation Council, confirmed that the Senate (Federation Council) will consider the agreement on April 16th and pledged its support.
Analysts point out that the deal reflects a common vision to counter the hegemony of Tehran and Moscow’s western hegemony, promoting Eurasia’s stability.
