TEHRAN – At a high-level diplomatic conference held in Abu Dhabi, Iran’s Deputy Minister Majid Takt Ravanchi emphasized Tehran’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) based on shared interests and regional stability.
The joint Iran and UAE committee meeting on political consultations held on Friday was co-chaired by UAE Ministers of Political Affairs Takht-Ravanchi and Lana Nusseibeh. The discussion focused on expanding political and economic cooperation while pressing for regional and international development.
Takht-Ravanchi focuses on Iran’s foreign policy on promoting strong relations with neighbouring countries, and describes the conference as an essential step in deepening bilateral coordination. He emphasized the importance of identifying new areas of cooperation to promote the implementation of existing agreements and further strengthen relations between Iran and the UAE.
Beyond bilateral issues, Iranian diplomats have also addressed wider regional concerns by urging the unity of Islamic countries to counter Israel’s aggressive policies in Palestine. He pointed to the Future Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers’ Summit as an opportunity for the majority of Muslim countries to adopt a unified stance on the actions of the Israeli genocide aimed at forcing Palestinians in Gaza.
Nusseibeh, representing the United Arab Emirates, reaffirmed her country’s dedication to strengthening comprehensive ties with Iran. She expressed optimism that continued diplomatic engagements will promote effective implementation of the agreement and enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. She also reiterated the UAE’s firm opposition to a plan to forcibly drive away Gaza’s population.
The two countries welcomed the progress made in key areas of cooperation, including economic, consul and security issues. They reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating discussions on the final agreement and memorandum of understanding (MOU) under negotiation, particularly in relation to the Joint Economic Committee, Consular Committee and the Coast Guard Cooperation Council.
