TEHRAN – Tehran was chosen to hold the first urban forum of UN tourism dedicated to urban attractions, following a significant agreement reached bystanders of regional conferences organized by the UN agencies in Indonesia.
According to the Abbasabad Culture and Tourism Zone Public Relations Bureau, Abbasabad Tourism Zone CEO Seyed Mohammad Hossein Hejaj announced the development when he visited Jakarta for the UN Conference.
The agreement on that point was signed on Tuesday by Iran’s Deputy Tourism Minister Anusilvan Moseni Bandopi and UN Tourism Secretary Zlab Pololikashvili.
Under the terms of the contract, the first Tourism Forum will be held in Tehran from June 24-25, with the cultural and tourist area of Abbasabad, which will be hosting in partnership with the city of Tehran.
At the signing ceremony, Pololikashvili highlighted the important role of urban tourism in boosting the urban economy and improving the quality of life of its residents. He also praised the Iranian government, Tehran city, and in particular the Abbasabad district for its important efforts and investment in strengthening the city’s tourism infrastructure, amenities and services.
Pololikashvili further highlighted Iran’s rich cultural and civilized heritage and its immense tourist potential, expressing his hope that Tehran and other Iranian cities will gain the recognition they deserve at the world’s tourism stage.
Abbasabad’s cultural and tourist belt spans 560 hectares and is known as the “green gem” of the Iranian capital. Recognised as Tehran’s main tourist and recreation hub, it is one of the city’s most famous and frequently visited attractions.
