TEHRAN – The Ministry of the Environment (DOE) held a national conference on the conservation of natural resources in Tehran on Saturday.
“In regards to the fact that the country is affected by climate change, measures need to be taken to develop adaptation solutions and promote resilience. Irna says Doe’s director, Shina Ansari.
“Over the last century, the world has lost a third of its natural resources. In our country, depletion of natural resources is occurring in both quantitative and qualitative terms for a variety of reasons,” Ansari said while attending the conference.
When talking about forest values, economic benefits are usually considered, but non-market services such as water regulation, soil conservation, carbon sequestration, and habitats for plants and animal species are ignored.
Officials continue, DOE estimates the value of 64% of the confidential ecosystem so that they can assess their true economic value. It contributes to exploring the true values of the natural capital, as they are not God’s eternal gifts.
She added that it will help you make the right decision between the development goals and the benefits of healthy ecosystems.
Forests are home to 80% of the terrestrial biodiversity, and degradation of the forest causes severe habitat destruction and species loss, Ansari said.
Officials also emphasized the importance of smart local surveillance as a key factor in the conservation of natural resources, promoting environmental culture, educating communities, restoring damaged areas, developing sustainable forest management plans, utilizing the latest technology.
National Week on Natural Resources and Basin Management
Natural Resources and Basin Management Week was held from March 5th to 13th under the theme of “Consensus and Empathy for the Maintaining Natural Resources.”
March 5th is celebrated annually as National Tree Planting Day by planting seedlings all over the country. The event was held last month of the Iranian calendar on the 15th day of the Esfund, marking the beginning of the national week of natural resources. In addition, this day is approved to be registered on the national calendar as “Environmental Protection Education Day.”
Ali Teimouri, head of the Natural Resources and Basin Management Agency, said the desert constitutes approximately 32 million hectares of 134 million hectares of natural land nationwide.
He also added that forests and pastures account for 17.5 million hectares and 84 million hectares of natural land, respectively, the IRNA reported.
According to the secretary of the National Policy Planning Headquarters, which dealt with sand and sandstorms, the country’s 2.5 million hectares of dune storm hotspots have been stable over the past six years.
The conservation of natural resources is important to protect vibrant ecosystems and increase human well-being by wisely using the survival of all living creatures around the world.
While it is extremely important to protect nature as habitat for various animal species, over the past few years the effects of climate change and the wise and selfish exploitation of human nature have almost destroyed it.
If it continues like that, there is no habitat or animal left on Earth. Finding shelters to live, breed and raise children is the fundamental need of not only humans, but all other creatures on earth, both on land and at sea.
Animals need safety, but humans cannot see them pursue their work and consider the whole planet as their inheritance. The Earth belongs to all inhabitants, but human intervention in nature has made animal habitats less safe and more dented. It is a real challenge where the environment meets its creatures.
With its diverse climate, Iran is home to many plants and animal species, increasing the importance of habitat conservation. Vertebrates include 165 species of mammals, 517 bird species, 209 species of reptiles, 174 species of fish, and 22 species of amphibians.
However, issues such as indiscriminate construction, mineral exploration, road-building farmland development, and climate change have led to animal and plant habitat decreasing year by year. Ultimately, their disappearance and extinction will be inevitable due to their disturbed habitat.
