TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi has reaffirmed his stance against external pressure on his country’s unwavering stance.
He spoke to foreign ambassadors and envoys in Tehran on Thursday, emphasizing that Iran will not succumb to economic terrorism and will continue to defend sovereignty in resilience.
“We firmly believe that active diplomacy and constructive engagement with the world are key to world peace, stability and progress. However, Iran never surrenders to coercion or unjust pressure. No. The path of national development.”
He reiterated that Iran’s diplomatic strength lies in those who take pride in engaging in negotiations based on mutual respect and honorable agreement. He noted for 46 years that Iran is fully committed to international obligations whenever an agreement is established based on dignity and fairness.
The foreign minister warned that attempts to put unfair pressure on Iran would satisfy unparalleled resistance. He argued that Iranian history demonstrates its ability to defeat invaders and defend its sovereignty with incredible courage and determinism.
“Whenever Iran faced repression, he taught a powerful lesson to those who were trying to shatter the control of their enemy and undermine its independence,” he said.
Araguchi highlighted Iran’s important role in maintaining regional and global stability, particularly in the fight against occupation, terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.
“Iran has paid a considerable price, materially and mentally, to ensure the safety of the region,” he said, highlighting the country’s frontline efforts to combat these threats.
He also pointed to the current administration’s commitment to a positive and independent foreign policy, highlighting it as a principle that guides justice, mutual respect, non-interference and independence from global superpowers.
The Foreign Minister emphasized that Iran is trying to develop partnerships based on mutual respect and shared interests, and reiterated Iran’s commitment to strengthening relations with its neighbours and the broader international community.
“Iran is ready to expand its Goodneigbor policy and strengthen its cooperation with all countries, particularly the countries in the region,” he asserted.
To conclude his remarks, the Foreign Minister emphasized Iran’s rich cultural and historical heritage and expressed his preparedness to cooperate in a variety of fields.
“As a country with a profound ancient civilization, Iran continues to accept cooperation with all countries in a diverse range of fields,” he said.
Nuclear weapons are not Iran’s agenda: President Pezeshkian
Speaking on the same incident, President Masuud Pezeshkian has defied the allegations that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons, calling such allegations baseless political motivation.
“We are not pursuing nuclear weapons. Ayatollah Seiyed Ali Khamenei, the dear leader of the Islamic Revolution, has issued a fatwa against it,” he said.
He emphasized that Iran’s nuclear doctrine is based on this religious order. It expressly prohibits the production, possession, and use of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.
Pezeshkian dismissed repeated claims about Iran’s nuclear ambitions and noted that inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have full access to Iran’s facilities.
“Whenever the inspector wanted, they came and were inspected. They could come and come another 100 times. When we have no such intention, why did we have to say that of these grounds? Should I continue to hear the accusations that are not?” he asked.
Pezeshkian accused Israel of committing attacks on all regional countries, spreading false claims about Iran’s nuclear program.
“The Israeli occupation regime violates the sovereignty of all the countries in the region, but human rights defenders argue that it simply defends itself,” he said.
To the ambassadors of Islamic countries, Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s desire for true diplomatic engagement and regional cooperation.
“Iran wants a sincere relationship based on mutual respect and exchange of experience,” he said.
He also pointed to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA) as evidence of Iran’s commitment to peaceful nuclear development. However, he criticized Washington’s unilateral withdrawal from the contract in 2018, and Iran began rolling back its commitments after other signatories failed to support their duties.
Nevertheless, Pezeshkian argued that Iran remained open to constructive diplomacy while standing against foreign pressure.
