Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei condemned Germany’s dual-standard approach to human rights, accusing him of interfering with Iran’s internal affairs in a recent resolution at the UN Human Rights Council.
On Friday, Baghey criticized Germany for consistently exploiting human rights mechanisms to promote political agenda for other countries, including Iran.
He explained that Germany presented its cooperation with the UK and other countries as an anti-Iranian resolution as a selective and hypocritical stance on human rights.
“As the second-largest supplier of arms to the Israeli regime, Germany shares responsibility for all the atrocities and serious violations of humanitarian law committed against innocent Palestinians and other civilians in the region,” he said.
“Therefore, presenting yourself as a human rights advocate has no moral or legal status,” Baghey added.
He also recalled that Iran’s long-standing demands on Germany are responsible for his active role in providing chemical weapons to previous Iraqi regimes that caused considerable casualties among Iranian military and civilians during the Iranian-Iraq War.
Baghaei urged German officials to prove the integrity of their claims on human rights and justice by accepting Iran’s formal proposal of a joint fact-finding mechanism to clarify the involvement of German businesses and officials in arming with chemical weapons.
The UN Human Rights Council has passed a resolution against Iran.
