Tehran – The first symposium on artificial intelligence on health focused on smart hospitals is scheduled to take place in Tehran in the summer.
The event, hosted by Amirkabir Institute of Technology, brings together experts to discuss global solutions and local models, and develops smart hospitals that utilize AI in hospital management, reported by the Health Ministry website.
The symposium will focus on AI assistants for hospital administrators, AI-optimized patient experiences, smart hospital automation and robotics, smart healthcare monitoring of patients, Internet of Things (IOT), smart medical equipment, and AI-based decision support systems.
It will also focus on strengthening the power of smart hospital doctors and staff, leveraging AI in resource and supply chain management, developing brain computer interfaces (BCIS), and discussing ethical, legal and security issues that use AI in hospitals.
MOU has signed to use AI in treatment
In January, the Vice President of Science and Technology and the University of Tehran University of Medicine signed a memorandum of understanding to use artificial intelligence for medical purposes.
The agreement, inked on January 11th, aims to promote targeted support for the knowledge-based ecosystem in the health sector focused on human-centered health using artificial intelligence tools for cell therapy in endocrinology and metabolism, and human-centered healthcare with ultimate innovations in reported products and services.
Statistics show significant cost savings of around 40% using artificial intelligence in health in developed countries. In certain cases such as breast and lung cancer, artificial intelligence can reduce healthcare costs by 80%, so knowledge-based economy should aim to use AI to save on healthcare costs.
Development of smart health care documents
The Smart University of Medical Sciences (SMUMS) has compiled Smart Healthcare documents, currently in the final stages of approval.
Once approved, the document is a valuable step taken towards digital transformation of the country’s healthcare system, SMUMS president Hassan Bakhtiari said in December 2024.
The Smums Research Center is a great place to conduct applied research and recruit medical researchers. The center also helps develop treatments and reduce treatment costs, he noted.
He emphasized that most countries in the region are pioneers of artificial intelligence, saying, “Iran needs to strengthen its position in the region’s artificial intelligence sector.”
AI plays an important role in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases. It also improves the quality of health services.
Bakhtiari said that using AI technology could put the development of health services in disadvantaged areas and rural areas on the agenda.
Telehealth is one area that helps AI establish health justice by providing access to advanced medical services in remote locations.
