Tehran, Iran – UN Tourism will hold the United Nations Tourism Global Forum on Urban Tourism in Tehran from June 24th to 25th, in collaboration with Iran’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts.
The event is also supported by Tehran’s Abasabad Cultural Tourism Region, an affiliated member of UN tourism.
The forum is held under the theme of “The Urban Tourism We Need: Resilient, Smart, Sustainable Urban Tourism” and aims to unite policymakers, industry leaders, urban planners and tourism experts around the world. The focus is on developing innovative strategies that ensure that urban tourism will positively contribute to the long-term resilience and sustainability of the city.
The two-day event serves as a global platform for exchanging best practices and exploring how tourism can become a critical driver of urban transformation and regeneration.
As cities around the world are impacting rapid urbanization, the forum discusses the need for smarter infrastructure, comprehensive growth and environmentally responsible tourism development.
Future forums are coming at a critical time as they seek globally to balance tourism growth with quality of life, environmental protection and cultural integrity. The city has become an increasingly popular destination, making up a large portion of international tourist arrivals. However, this surge in urban tourism also poses challenges, including overcrowding, pressure on public services and the risks of cultural homogenization.
In response, UN tourism has advocated an overall urban tourism model that prioritizes sustainability, smart technology integration and local community engagement. The Tehran Forum is set to spotlight effective initiatives and encourage collaboration to shape the cities of tomorrow.
