Tehran – Tehran by Polish playwright Slaumir Murozek – The play “Peter O’ of Peter O’ of Peter O’sey” will be on stage at Tehran’s City Theater from February 9th.
Fares Bagheri directed the cast of Morteza Hoseinzadeh, Farzaneh Meydani, Mohammad Ashkanfar, Amir Shams, Mehdi Abuhamzeh and Aynaz Jalili.
In the play, when the tiger suddenly appears in the bathroom, the family’s family’s home life is turned upside down. As increasingly absurd characters break into their homes (scientists, government officials, circus managers, etc.), families need to decide whether to succumb to the circus and participate.
The play shows how the hero of its title deals with the appearance of a bloodthirsty tiger in his bathroom. Peter is clearly an unauthorized and unforgettable person, and is more interested in his daily newspaper than his wife or children. He is very unaware, so he needs a clown official to let him know that there are wild animals in his home. Tigers attract pageants of characters who try to exploit the tiger on behalf of their respective institutions. Representatives of science, economy, arts and government are at home, but Peter is ineffective enough to stop them.
Slawomir Mrozek (1930-2013) has transformed from journalism to creating absurd satire. “The Martyrdom of Peter Ohey” was written in 1959 by Mrozek, a journalist and cartoonist trained during the Stalinist era in Poland.
Murozek, one of Poland’s most famous playwrights, wrote this absurd work as a subtle criticism of the political system of the time.
Murozek began writing plays in the late 1950s. His theatrical works belong to an absurd genre of fiction, which aims to shock the audience with unrealistic elements, political and historical references, distortions and parodies.
