TEHRAN – According to Nader Aridadi Seleimani, director of the Cultural Heritage Registry of Karman Province, 10 ancient artifacts of the Bronze Age are officially listed on the national list of Iran’s mobile heritage sites.
Soleimani announced on Wednesday that the artifact had been inscribed during a session of the Central Council for the registration of mobility cultural history property at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Crafts.
The artifact dates back to the third millennium BC, belong to Bronze Age culture in the Giroft Plain, a region known for its rich archaeological significance in southern Iran.
Soleimani emphasized the importance of Giroft’s civilization, saying that in the early days of the third millennium BC, the local rural communities had shifted from the Calkolithic era to the advanced stages of urban development. “This transformation led to the establishment of early cities and the emergence of structured civilizations.”
He further emphasized that the Giloft civilization is considered one of the few early human civilizations to flourish in today’s Iran, and plays an important role in the growth and progress of ancient society.
Until the early 21st century, no one dreamed that sophisticated and forgotten culture could re-emerge from the sands of remote, arid regions of southeastern Iran. The story begins when a massive flood of floods wiped out topsoil from thousands of unknown graves at the Bronze Age cemetery in Giroft. The surprising array of findings at Jiroft called for a reevaluation of previous interpretations based on the fact that Mesopotamia was considered a cradle of civilization.
According to an article in National Geographic, in 2001, floods of archaeological objects began to appear in ancient markets out of nowhere. In a short time, the distinctive fragments of gems, weapons, finely crafted ceramics, drinking boats, and game boards found a way to sell extraordinary artistry and the epic inlays of Lapis Lajuri.
These extraordinary works feature complex symbols of both wild and tame animals, depicting fighting between themselves and fighting with human humans. There were beautifully realized idyllic scenes of animals grazing in vast palm groves and architectural replicas of temples and palaces.
