TEHRAN – Two soldiers from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have been marching, while three others were injured in a terrorist attack on Monday night, targeting an IRGC operational base in western Kordestan.
According to the IRGC’s Cordestan Division’s public relations department, the perpetrators used hand-held bullets from Salbabad County in the southwestern part of the state to attack the base.
The fallen soldiers were identified as clergyman Alireza Valizadeh and Ayub Siri, a member of the Vasiji volunteer army stationed at the previous post. The injured personnel were transferred to a local hospital for treatment.
In a statement released after the incident, Hamzeh expressed his sadness at the Al-Shohada base of the IRGC ground forces to the family and comrades of the martial artists, emphasizing that the attackers faced a firm response.
“This act of hostility will not be answered,” the statement read. “The self-selling and mercenary elements of the counter-revolutionary group behind this coronavirus attack will receive a critical response from our army.”
The statement issued on Tuesday also noted that the attack occurred at dusk on Monday, with armed terrorists launching an attack on one of the IRGC’s operational posts in Salbabad County. Two soldiers stationed there added that they had martial arts during the exchange.
The IRGC’s Kordestan division denounced the “relentless terrorists” responsible for the attack, describing it as an agent of “global rog arrog,” a term often used by Iranian officials to refer to the United States and its allies.
Expressing “deep sorrow and sadness,” the legion praised the martial artists’ dedication and sacrifices, saying their courage played an important role in maintaining the “exemplary security” that prevails across the country.
“The martialism and injuries of these brave IRGC members are further evidence of this truth,” the statement added, expressing sadness to the leaders of the Islamic Revolution, proclaiming Ali Khamenei, the families of the victims and the Iranian state.
These terrorists are associated with foreign intelligence agencies seeking to destabilize the country, particularly in border states such as Kordestan, Sistan and Balchestan.
The latest attack involved a previous attack in which five law enforcement officials died in Daman district in Iranshaal County weeks after Iranian security forces killed at least eight terrorists in southeastern Sistan and Balchestan provinces.
The IRGC reaffirmed its commitment to continuing national security and warned that attacks on Iranian people and borders will be met with rapid and decisive retaliation.
