Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to a “immediate and unconditional” ceasefire with a critical breakthrough to resolve the fatal border conflict that entered the fifth day, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Monday.
According to ABC News, Anwar, who chaired the consultation as head of the Association of Associations for the Regional Bloc Association of Southeast Asian Countries, said he has reached a common understanding of taking steps to return to normal following what he called the Frank discussion.
The battle erupted last Thursday after an explosion of a land mine along the border wounded five Thai soldiers. Both sides accused each other of starting a clash that killed at least 35 people and stolen more than 260,000 people on both sides. Both countries remembered the ambassador, and Thailand closed all border crossings with Cambodia, with the exception of migrant Cambodian workers returning home.
