President Pezeskian made his remarks at a parade and ceremony held in Tehran to commemorate National Army Day.
He mentioned attempts by the enemy before the victory of the Islamic Revolution in February 1979, explaining that the army was prevented from joining his revolutionary forces, and that the army had shattered the hopes of the enemy at the time.
The president pointed to the sacrifices made by the Army to protect the country during the eight years of the Iraqbasist regime’s war with Iran between 1980 and 1988, saying that as many as 48,000 Army men were martyred in defending the country against foreign-supported invasions by the Saddam administration.
“If it wasn’t for Iranian forces, the enemy would have tried to conquer the country,” the president said.
He also said the Army continues to irritate the enemy by thwarting that plot 46 years after the revolution.
