In an interview with Xinhua, China’s official news agency, ahead of the SCO summit, which will take place Sunday through Monday in Tianjin city in northern China, Baguey highlighted the shared historical ties between the two countries’ cultures and civilizations.
Both sides continue to advance and deepen their relationship as mutual understanding and trust is steadily growing.
“It’s a constantly thriving relationship. We value our relationship with China,” he pointed out.
The two countries have signed numerous agreements in areas such as trade, economy, energy, agriculture and tourism, Baguei pointed out, expressing optimism about the future of Iran-China cooperation.
The foundations of our bilateral relations are very solid and both countries are determined to continue their excellent bilateral relations, officials said.
Regarding the Iranian president’s visit to China, Bagaei said, “We intend to use this opportunity to promote bilateral relations with China and hold meetings with other leaders of participating countries.”
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) plays a positive role in ensuring the continuity of the international order based on multilateralism and the rule of law, the diplomat said.
The SCO is very impactful and effective in the sense that it can express the interests and concerns of the global South, he said.
Baghaei said the world is currently facing the unilateral challenges that the unilateral Western countries, particularly the US, and the common challenges posed by the enforcement measures.
He said SCO could play a very important role in providing an effective framework for global tropical cooperation, ensuring the interests of developing countries, and ensuring the continuity of the international order based on multilateralism, the rule of law, and normative structures that come from the UN Charter.
Established in 2001, SCO was founded in China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan won full membership status in 2017, while Iran joined in 2023. Recently, Belarus has been added as the latest full member.
