European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said RBC-Ukraine reported ahead of the security conference at the European Commission University in Brussels.
“A total of 2 billion euros will now be spent on drones,” von der Reyen said.
She said the funding aims to help Ukraine strengthen its own defensive capabilities and at the same time develop advanced technologies that will serve the European Union.
“This will allow Ukraine to scale up and use its full capacity, and the EU can also benefit from this technology,” she explained.
Since the start of the full-scale war, Ukraine has significantly increased its production of weapons and has increased the implementation of cutting-edge technologies already in use at the forefront.
According to the Ukrainian defense minister, Ukrainian weapons production, Dennis Schmichal, has increased 35 times since the start of the full-scale war. Ukraine plans to increase this figure even further.
In July this year, Ukrainian and American company Swift Beat signed a memorandum of understanding to expand drone production. Under that, the Ukrainian forces receive the drones they need to destroy the missiles.
Ukraine also agreed to Denmark to launch a joint production line for long-range drones. Meanwhile, talks with the US are underway.
