Allegheny County Communications Director Abigail Gardner said Claireton Cokes Works had no solid deaths.
Allegheny County Emergency Services said the fire at the factory began around 10:51am and transported five people. The agency will not provide any more details about the people transported and will simply say it is an “active scene.”
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said CNN reported that his administration is in contact with local Clareton officials.
“The scene is still active and people nearby should follow the direction of local governments,” Shapiro writes in X.
Claireton Cola Works, a large industrial facility along the Monongahera River, south of Pittsburgh, is considered the largest caulking operation in North America.
Caulking plants process raw coal into cola, an important component of steel production.
