The military division of Hamas, the Al-Qassam brigade, announced that it had launched a surprising attack on Israeli forces southeast of Khan Yunis on Wednesday morning. The fighters destroyed tanks, attacked Israeli positions with mortars and explosive devices, and engaged soldiers in close combat within the home, according to the group. The sniper reportedly killed the commander of the Merkaba 4 Tank during the attack.
In an interview with 103FM, the leading Israeli Israel ZIV, confirmed that the movement is reorganizing and reorganizing its initiative.
“What we see in front of us is the new Hamas, the Hamas that are recovering. Hamas is reorganizing like a guerrilla organization, as if it started,” he said.
His remarks reflected previous warnings by retired Major General Hitzhak Brik, who wrote that Hamas had already rebuilt into pre-war power.
“Hamas now counts around 40,000 resistance fighters, similar to their strength before the attack began,” Brick wrote, adding that Israeli soldiers face a “severe” reality.
Brick dismissed Israeli officials’ claims that the movement was crippled. “They were never in the military and therefore have not lost military capabilities as the Chief of Staff claims,” he argued.
Discussions within Israel reflect a broader perception that the war has not achieved its goals, including the removal of Hamas, despite extensive destruction of the region, leading to the forced movement of almost the entire Gaza population.
This statement comes as Israel advances its plans to expand its ground invasion into Gaza city, despite the international community warning of the dire humanitarian costs of such attacks.
Gaza authorities have announced that more than 62,100 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed, and at least 157,114 have been injured since the Israeli Genocide War on Bessieged Territories began in October 2023.
