TEHRAN – Iran has appointed former Home Minister Abdreza Ramani Fazli as the new ambassador of the People’s Republic of China.
The announcement was made by Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei. “Abdreza Ramani Fazli has been appointed as the new ambassador to China from China to Iran,” he told reporters.
Rahmani Fazli brings decades of high-level experience in governance and national security. He previously served as Iran’s interior minister in both the 11th and 12th administrations. His broad background is as a deputy commander of Iran’s law enforcement forces, director of the National Security Council, and a member of the Supreme Council of Iran’s Red Crescent Association.
Rahmani Fazli envisions a post at a time when Iran and China are strengthening bilateral cooperation under the framework of a 25-year comprehensive strategic partnership agreement signed in 2021. The agreement has long-term plans across a range of sectors, including energy, infrastructure, security, technology and culture.
Iran and China maintain robust trade ties despite facing unilateral sanctions from the US and other Western powers. China continues to be Iran’s biggest trading partner, with both governments accusing sanctions of effective and illegal.
Beyond their growing bilateral relations, Iran and China are actively collaborating within multilateral frameworks such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS. Both countries emphasize international law, joint efforts to counter terrorism, and a common interest in promoting stability in West Asia and beyond.
