TEHRAN – Governor Marivan said that the city’s attractions have not yet been properly introduced to domestic and international audiences, and urged further efforts to promote the city’s tourism potential at the domestic and international level.
Governor Nejad Jahani, speaking on Thursday at the “Washi Host” conference held to promote trade and improve the urban landscape of Mariban, said the objective of the event was to identify the strengths and weaknesses of local tourism, develop scientific and economic-based models for attracting tourists, and refine behavioral and visual standards for large-scale events.
Mr. Jahani said that local residents play an important role in attracting tourists and that tourism is one of the main sectors of trade. He added that the sector requires sustainable infrastructure, preservation of traditional infrastructure and education in modern behavioral patterns.
“All government agencies must take responsibility for promoting Mariban’s cultural and tourism attractions, as this directly contributes to economic development,” he said.
Several professors from Kordestan University also presented scientific and research-based perspectives, emphasizing the need to reconnect Mariban’s natural and cultural capabilities with commercial markets. They said tourism is a key driver of regional economic growth.
The conference, held under the slogan “Mariban: Harmony of Nature and Commerce in Iran”, marked the beginning of a new approach to introduce Mariban as the host city for the celebrations of Nowruz 1405 (March 2026).
Located about 100 km west of Sanandaj, the capital of Kordestan province, Mariban is known for its natural attractions, including the scenic Zarivar Lake.
