Earlier on May 7, Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said the Persian Gulf was not merely a geographical name. It is part of the historical identity of the Iranian state.
She emphasized that those who are trying to change the name of the “Persian Gulf” do not understand Iran’s wonderful history of thousands of years.
Last week, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut said attempts to change the historically established name of the Persian Gulf were firmly condemned, showing hostile intentions towards Iran and its people.
“The names of the Persian Gulf, like many geographical designations, are deeply rooted in human history. Iran has never opposed the use of names such as Oman, the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea, or the Red Sea. The use of these names does not imply ownership by a particular country, but rather reflects a common respect for the collective heritage written on the X Account.
