Tehran – To celebrate International Museum Day, Hadan’s Hegmatane Museum unveils three exquisite golden artifacts, giving visitors a glimpse into Iran’s rich cultural heritage for thousands of years.
The unveiling ceremony, held on Saturday under the global theme “Museum of a Sustainable Future,” was led by state tourism director Mohsen Massouum Alizadeh.
The objects consisted of gold earrings from the Achaemenid era, gold bracelets symbolized by the (early) Islamic period agate stones, and gold necklaces decorated with agate stones from the Kajal period.
All three pieces have been discovered in the Hamedan region and are first published under the title “Gold and Time: Golden Tales from Iranian History.”
“These artifacts are not only artistic masterpieces, but also powerful historical documents that reflect the deep cultural and historical roots of Hegmatane,” Masouum Alizadeh said, highlighting its role in maintaining the identity of this ancient city.
Hegmatane, also known as Ekbatana, is a UNESCO registered site and one of Iran’s most renowned ancient cities, renowned for its archaeological and cultural significance dating back to the Central Empire.
Masoum-Alizadeh will also announce progress on the establishment of a Western Iran Regional Museum, which will showcase additional archaeological discoveries from the wider region, further expanding public access to Iran’s historic treasures.
Officials say the unveiling ceremony marked the start of Iran’s cultural heritage week. It aims to promote a public appreciation for the country’s diverse historic heritage through exhibitions, events and educational programs.
Located on the outskirts of Modern Hamadan, Hegmatane spans approximately 50 acres, and its rich archaeological deposits offer a glimpse of thousands of years of human civilization. Despite its enormous historical significance, the majority of the site remains unexplored, promising future discoveries that could further reveal an understanding of ancient Iran.
Hegmataneh is universally celebrated as the place where the Central Dynasty was first established. Serving as the capital of a powerful central empire, Hegmatane became the key center of the Achaemenid Empire, one of the most influential empires in history. The city’s historical importance is further enriched by its role in subsequent periods, including the Seleucous province, Parthian, Sassanid and the Islamic period. Each era left its indelible mark in the hegmatana, shaping it into a vibrant tapestry of cultural evolution.
This site is a treasure trove for archaeologists and historians. The site features an impressive series of ruins from various dynasties, including the Medes, Achemenid, Parthian, Sassanid, and the Islamic period, particularly the Buyid dynasty. Most of the remains belong to the Parthian period, but the site also has an urban building system considered a masterpiece of the time.
