The International Union of Journalists (IUJ) Election Commission has officially announced the results of the Executive Council elections held on October 5th, 2025 for the 2025-2027 period. The election ensured transparency, equity and wide participation from member journalists from different regions of the world, and wide participation from member journalists from different regions of the world.
Official results show that Chile’s Carlos Felipe Villa Prado was elected president, while Nepal’s Lausan Puri was elected vice president. The Mohammed, from Pakistan, was elected general secretary and along with Sri Lanka Sudewa Hettialacz and Martin Karos of the Czech Republic, was elected as assistant secretary. Denisa Petrilakova of the Czech Republic was elected treasurer, while Marek Trazzik, from Poland, was elected chairman of the executive committee.
The elected members of the Executive Committee include Dipendra Kunwar of Nepal, Jaime Villaroel of Chile, Rene Vega Giles of Mexico, Rome Brasco of Czech Republic, Adir Shahid of Pakistan and Sabin Damara of Nepal.
In a related announcement, Muhammad Masood Eunice has been appointed Chief Coordinator and Spokesman for the International Union of Journalists (IUJ). The IUJ expressed gratitude to all participants, the National Association of Journalists and observers for supporting democratic values, transparency and professionalism throughout the election process. The newly elected leadership has committed to strengthening international solidarity among journalists, defending press freedom and promoting ethical journalism around the world.
