TEHRAN – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) announced the success of neutralizing the cell of terrorists in the southeastern Sistan and Balchestan, taking a major blow to hostile groups operating near the border with Pakistan.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the QUDS base of the IRGC ground force confirmed that six members of the terrorist group were killed in a rapid anti-terrorist attack in the coastal city of Chabahar. The operation coincided with the ongoing martial artists of security military exercises taking place throughout the region.
The militant hideout was found with the help of wary locals, according to the statement. Mild and heavy weapon caches were seized along with a large amount of explosives during the surgery.
The IRGC noted that neutralised terrorists had planned a series of coordinated attacks targeting crowded public areas. Their exclusion is believed to have avoided a potential wave of deadly violence.
For a long time, Sistan and Balkestan have seen frequent attacks on both civilians and Iranian security forces in recent years as targets of terrorist activities. Iranian officials say that armed groups operating in the region, particularly along the Pakistan border, are often linked to foreign intelligence reporting networks.
One of the most fatal incidents in recent months occurred on October 26th last year. Ten Iranian police officers have been killed in a terrorist attack in Gohark district in Tahtan County. Jaish Al-Zulm Terrorist Group, known for its armed operations and aiding in the area, has argued responsibility for the attack.
Jaish Al-Zulm is behind numerous attacks in Sistan and Baluchestan, targeting front posts at the border, police stations and civilians to unsettle and unsettling the area.
The IRGC has reiterated its commitment to protect the country’s borders and maintain the security of the entire region, pledged continued vigilance in the face of the threats supported by foreigners.
