TEHRAN – Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bakar Karibah has called on the Muslim world to close the scope of solidarity with the Palestinian people as Israeli war in Gaza continues to claim thousands of lives.
After Friday’s prayers, we pray at Istiklal Mosque in Jakarta. He was attending the 19th High-Level Session of the OIC Member States Parliament (PUIC). Kalibahu urged Muslims to unite over what he described as an ongoing genocide in Gaza.
“It is our Islamic duty to stand together in the face of global rog arrogance and prevent it from being the biggest genocide in modern history today,” he said.
Karibahu emphasized that Gaza people, especially children, women and sick people, are seeking support from the Muslim world. “They hope that we are their voices and that we will not abandon them in these miserable times,” he added.
Israel began its war with Gaza on October 7, 2023. Since then, at least 53,010 Palestinians (mostly women and children) have been killed and more than 119,998 have been injured. Despite the incredible sacrifices, Israel reportedly failed to achieve its stated military goals.
The ceasefire, mediated on terms accepted by Hamas, began on January 19th, but Israel broke the ceasefire on March 2nd by cutting off humanitarian aid. A few weeks later, it resumed airstrikes and reintroduced ground forces into the Gaza Strip.
Karibahu blamed the Israeli regime for blocking access to important medical supplies in Gaza, where he said children now fear death not only from bombs, but also from hunger, thirst and illness.
He referenced the words of Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, who once called on Muslims to stand up against Israel’s “cancerous tumors.”
The speaker reaffirmed Iran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and said it would not stop the Iranian state from standing by the oppressed people of Gaza.
