TEHRAN – Ebrahim Rezai, a spokesman for the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, announced at a joint meeting with President Masuud Pezeshkian that the committee members emphasized their obligation to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities in the upcoming budget.
According to Rezaei, the conference focused on several key issues related to protecting Iran’s national security and promoting foreign policy objectives, particularly in light of recent developments following the 12-day conflict with the Zionist regime.
During the session, the heads of the five expert subcommittees of the committee, including security, defense, diplomacy, nuclear and human rights, presented a comprehensive report with multiple members and shared their assessments with the President. The committee emphasized the need to allocate sufficient resources to strengthen military and border defense units, while also attending the welfare of underprivileged segments of society.
Members highlighted the importance of adopting a community-based approach to public safety and addressed concerns about security situations in the northeastern and southeastern regions of the country. They also highlighted the strategic role of the media in raising public awareness and strengthening national resilience.
On the diplomatic front, the committee emphasized the need to deepen relations with neighboring states and carefully navigate new geopolitical blocs. The importance of diplomatic solidarity with the oppressed people in Gaza was also reaffirmed with a call for robust support through all available international channels.
On June 13, the Zionist regime launched a military attack on Iran, targeting military, nuclear facilities and civilian areas for 12 days. The US later escalated the conflict on June 22 by carrying out airstrikes at three Iranian nuclear sites (Natantz, Fordau and Isfahan).
In a rapid retaliation, the Iranian forces launched a series of powerful counter strikes. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) aerospace forces carried out a 22-round missile attack on targets in the occupied territory during Operation True Promise III, causing serious damage and casualties.
In response to the US strike, Iran also launched a barrage of missiles at Aldeid Air Force Base in Qatar, the largest US military facility in West Asia. The scope of Iran’s retaliatory moves forced the Israeli regime to demand a suspension of hostility announced by the United States on June 24th.
